Dr. Akhavanfard is an assistant professor of pathology at Case Western Reserve University and a Medical Director at the University Hospital Translational Laboratory. She is an ABMGG board-certified laboratory geneticist who completed her Clinical Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellowship at the Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and her M.D. from Iran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services in Tehran, Iran. Dr. Akhavanfard’s research focuses on genomic profiles and structural variations of tumors in pediatrics, adolescents, and young adults (C-AYA). Her interests include integrating novel molecular and cytogenomics diagnostic approaches into the clinical care of genetic and cancer patients to advance their personalized healthcare.
