Dr. Cong Liu is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. With a PhD in bioinformatics and further training in medical informatics during his postdoctoral work, Dr. Liu has dedicated his career to developing data science methodologies that enhance genomic research and support clinical decision-making in genetics and genomics. He currently leads the NIH-funded RESCUE project, an innovative initiative focused on creating analytical models and strategies for utilizing electronic health records (EHR) to diagnose and manage rare diseases early. This project involves designing machine learning models and applying natural language processing tools to improve genetic and genomic testing and identify patients likely to have rare diseases from EHR data. Dr. Liu's commitment extends beyond research to actual healthcare improvement, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as FHIR and Large Language Models (LLM) to better the lives of individuals with rare diseases. His contributions are also significant in collaborative networks such as eMERGE and OHDSI, where he plays an active role in advancing medical informatics.
