Dr. Ryan Relich is an American Board of Medical Microbiology-certified clinical microbiologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, where he directs a medical microbiology fellowship and teaches fellows, residents, and students. For IU Health, he serves as the Medical Director of the Division of Clinical Microbiology, Medical Director of the Donor Screening Laboratory, Medical Director of the Special Pathogens Unit Laboratory, and Associate Medical Director of the Division of Molecular Pathology.
As a principal investigator, Dr. Relich researches emerging viral diseases at biosafety level (BSL)-2 and BSL-3, focusing on pathogens like Heartland virus, SFTS virus, SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV, and monkeypox virus, among others. He is dedicated to developing diagnostics, evaluating countermeasures, and enhancing preparedness for high-consequence virus outbreaks.
